Jim Baca
Dolores Esquibel Baca, ca. 1942
This is my mother who went on to become a Registered Nurse and worked for over three decades at St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe. I believe this picture was taken while she was attending Santa Fe High School, class of 1944.
My Father's World War II Travel Log circa 1945
This is my father's record of his travels while aboard the USS Lanier in WWII. After finally docking on the east coast, he traveled west to San Diego where he was separated from active duty. On his way to San Diego, he stopped in Santa Fe before going to Phoenix to visit my mother (they were not yet married) who was in nurse's training at the Good Sammaritan Hospital. The entire journey involved automobiles, trains, naval ships, buses, a motorcycle and hitchhiking. This all took place in less than two years.

The Santa Fe River Flows Again!
Our beloved Santa Fe River will flow again with the spring run-off. This picture was taken a few days ago below Alto Park just before the Camino Alire Bridge. The picture was taken by my daughter Raquel Baca-Tompson who works for the Santa Fe Watershed Association. More information at: http://www.santafenm.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2316
The La Fonda Bell Tower
This photograph shows construction in progress of the La Fonda Bell Tower, circa 1926. The bell tower was designed by John Gaw Meem. This photograph appeared in the book "From Every Window: A Glimpse of the Past" published by the La Fonda. A very special thanks to Jennifer Kimball (Chairman of the La Fonda) and John Rickey (General Manager of the La Fonda) for their permission to publish this photo here on Voces de Santa Fe.
Bruns General Hospital
Times have certainly changed. Can it be that hospitals once provided you with the means to light your frajo?
E. Palace Avenue in 1944
This is related to Mike Lord's post whose great-grandparents lived on E. Palace in the early 1900's. This shows who lived on E. Palace three decades later. Do you recognize any names?
1956 SFHS 55th Class Reunion
A few months ago, I was commissioned by the 1956 SFHS class reunion committee to create a commemorative poster for the reunion. The poster honors the classmates that have passed in the years since the 1956 graduation.
1930 Santa Fe Census, Abeyta St.
This is from the 1930 Santa Fe census. Line 57 and 58 shows my great-grandparents, Monico and Josefa Rivera.
My Mother's WWII Ration Stamps ca. 1942
This is my mother's World War II ration stamp booklet. It shows that it was issued when she was 16 years old. I didn't think that someone that young would be issued ration stamps. Interesting.
